MMA or Krav Maga what's BETTER?

When talking about Krav Maga and MMA one thing must be made clear, Krav Maga is a Mixed Martial Art.

Now when I say this you will come to the conclusion that they must be basically the same and that MMA is better because you've seen the UFC and know that someone like Khabib or that has a name that ends in magomedov could most likely smesh any living being on earth.

While this may be true there's one clear distinction between sport MMA and Krav Maga, that is Krav Maga may as well be called Military Mixed Martial Arts.

So MMMA, if this was the case Krav Maga would conclusively be the best because it has more M’s in the name…

Obviously 🤷‍♂️.

But it's not so I’ll have to try a bit harder to convince you that this is in fact the case.

I’ll start by saying that Krav Maga is the original Mixed Martial Art, back in WW2 the British invented a hand to hand combat system known as Defendu.

This was created for British intelligence agents and special forces to better John Wick the sh*t out of our German and Italian friends.

Created by William Fairburn and Eric Sykes, both skilled martial artists in various traditional styles listed below:

All of these skills were condensed into one system focusing on only the most practical and effective techniques applicable to modern combat.

Meaning all sword dancing and gymnastics were scrapped and only super secret ancient road house style throat destruction techniques were kept.

After a whole war's worth of RnD, Defendu was refined and had been taught to various Jewish paramilitary organisations in British “Palestine”.

Then a man called Imi Lichtenfeld who served in a British supervised Czech infantry battalion during the war in the north africa region took it on and built a system around it.

He already had a strong martial arts foundation being a boxer and street fighter in his home country before the war, so no doubt he would have been selected and taught the Defendu system.

He then after the war and during the creation of the state of Israel developed what is known today as Krav Maga and since then the system has been updated and changed to be more effective and is always kept up to date with the current demands of modern combat.

Now I can hear you saying “How does this make Krav Maga better than MMA for a normal person?” While traditional Krav Maga was developed for IDF conscripts to learn within two weeks, modern krav maga which is taught globally has adopted the level systems and growth found in traditional martial arts.

This allows mainly civilians the time to learn the full system centred around practicality and self defence including weapons disarms and control techniques, things the everyday person should never have to use but is increasingly becoming a more frequent occurrence.

While on the other hand, MMA has its origins in sports and competition fighting usually being effective against one opponent who is only allowed to use the same moves as you in an arena with a nice cushioned floor to roll around on.

I know this is quite critical and yes about 20 years ago MMA or boxing was all you really needed to defend yourself.

People fought somewhat with honour and to an extent a fear of the law, but now stabbings, group attacks and even terrorist attacks are becoming almost normalised and are happening more frequently than ever.

This is why sadly a military martial art (Krav Maga), is now the best choice for your own personal self defence over regular MMA.

We offer classes for anyone and everyone and will equip you with the training needed to deal with any bad situation you may find yourself or your family in.

Our system is the most up to date and is constantly being reviewed and revised to make sure none of our students are relying on ineffective techniques.
